J: Jeff
G: Grace
J: I had no idea that Naomi was such a brilliant pianist! That
performance absolutely blew me away!
G: Yeah. She’s always kept it well hidden.
J: I don’t know why. That’s an amazing talent she has.
G: Well, you know she’s not the most confident person in the world.
Even getting her to play in this recital wasn’t easy.
J: If she could only overcome her shyness, I’d be willing to bet
she could make a career out of music.
G: I agree. She’s got perfect pitch and she can play anything by
ear. You should hear her sometimes. A new song will come on
the radio and she’ll play it right back after only hearing it
once.
J: Well, you never know. Maybe this recital has given her some
confidence. I mean, it’s not every day that you get a standing
ovation.
G: You can say that again. Come on, let’s go backstage and see her.

“to blow someone away" で「感動させる、感心させる」という意味。
ほかにも「撃ち殺す、射殺」や「完全にやっつける、ぶち壊す、徹底的
に打ち負かす」という意味がある。
Ex. Queen's performance blew me away.
（クイーンの演奏で感動した。）
She's always kept it well hidden.
（彼女は今までずっと隠してたからね。）
“to keep 〜 well hidden" で「よく隠す」という意味。ほかに
“keep 〜 under wraps"、“conceal the fact that 〜"、“not
advertise the fact that 〜" という言い方もある。
Ex. She's always kept her dislike for her mother in law well
hidden.
（彼女は、姑に対する嫌悪をずっと隠していた。）
Well, you know she's not the most confident person in the world.
（まぁ、そんなに自信がある人じゃないでしょう。）
“not the most 〜 person in the world" を直訳すると、「世界中で
最も〜な人ではない」になり、「あまり〜な人ではない」という意味。
反対に、「非常に 〜な人だ」という時は、“the most 〜 person in
the world" という言い方になる。
Ex. Sharon isn't the most beautiful person in the world, but
she is extremely kind.
（シャロンは、そんなにきれいではないんだけど、とても親切な人だ。）
I mean, it's not every day that you get a standing ovation.
（だって、スタンディングオベーションになるなんてめったにないことだからね。）
“it's not every day that 〜" で「〜はよくあることではない、
〜はめったいにないこと」という意味。 ほかにも“it's not often
that 〜"、“it's rare that 〜"、“it's seldom that 〜"、と
いう言い方がある。
Ex. It's not every day that you're invited to meet the Queen.
（女王に会うために呼ばれるのって滅多にないことだ。）
