G: Hey Bernadette, have you lost something?
B: I can’t find my purse.
G: That’s pretty serious. Did you have much money in it?
B: About $250. I was going to go and buy a birthday present for my
mother after work today. It has all my cards in it too.
G: You don’t want those falling into the wrong hands. Did you drop
it somewhere?
B: No, I doubt it. I haven’t opened my bag since leaving
the house.
G: Well, maybe you left it at home, then. When was the last time
you remember having it?
B: Hmmm, my sister gave me $100 towards Mum’s present this morning,
so I put that in my purse, and then… Oh!
G: What? Did you remember?
B: Yeah! The dog was begging to be let out, so I put the purse on
the kitchen counter and opened the door for him, and forgot to
put the purse back in my bag. What a dope!
G: Well, at least you know you haven’t lost it.
B: Yeah, that’s a relief. I’ll call my sister now and ask her to
bring it in for me at lunchtime.

"fall into the wrong hands"は「悪人（渡ってはいけない人）の
手に渡る」という意味。"wrong hands"は直訳では「間違った手」
という意味だが、"wrong"には「悪い、邪悪な、正しくない」という
意味もあるので、この場合には「悪の手、悪者、悪人」などの意味に
なる。
Ex: You have to be careful when you use the internet. You don't
want your private details to fall into the wrong hands.

手に渡って欲しくないからね。）
Hmmm, my sister gave me $100 towards Mum's present this morning,
（う〜ん、今朝妹が、母のプレゼントのために、私に100ドルをくれて、）
"toward/towards"はこの場合「〜のために、〜の助け（足し）に」と
いう意味。"for"と同義語。他には「〜に向かって、〜の方へ、〜に
向いて、〜に関して、（時間・数量的接近）〜の少し前に」という意味
がある。「〜へ向かって、〜の方へ」という意味で使われる場合、到着する
しないに関係なく単に方向を示し、"to"は到着することを示すので、
ニュアンスに違いがある。
Ex: I am working hard towards my goal.
（私は、目標のために一生懸命頑張っている。）

"what"は感嘆を表し「何と、（まあ）なんという」という意味。
感嘆を表す"what"の次には名詞（普通は形容詞を伴う）が続く。
"dope"はこの場合「まぬけな奴、馬鹿者」という意味。他には
「ドープ塗料、麻薬（特にマリファナ）、興奮剤、秘密情報」などの
意味がある。

くれるように頼むわ。
