Jack has gone out of the school, and is waiting for Michelle in the car. After she leaves Mr.Mackey's office, she meets up with him and confronts him on the way back to their house.

Mr. Mackey is giving Carl a chance to improve. He is not singling him out for ridicule. I know people made you feel terrible when you were in school, but things have changed since then. His
school is trying to be progressive, not punitive.

(long silence)

Jack: Maybe you’re right. I don’t know. I’m sorry, Michelle. I just don’t want Carl to go through the same things I did.

Michelle: I know sweetheart.

Jack: Do you think it’s a good idea…this tutorial whacha-ma-call-it?

Michelle: Yes, I do.

Jack: Well, I guess, then, we should at least try it.

Michelle: Someone’s going to have to break the news to Carl.

Jack: Don’t worry. I’ll do it.
