After Jack and Michelle get back to their house, Jack goes upstairs to Carl's room to break the news to him and to explain why he agreed to it.

Jack: Carl, I need to talk to you for a minute.

Carl: Did you sort everything out with Mr.Mackey?

Jack: Well, Yes…but maybe not the way you might want.

Carl: Aw, man!

Jack: Now just a second. He is concerned about you and he wants you to try some tutorial classes: but only in French and History.

Carl: That sucks!

Jack: Carl! Now look, I went to bat for you, kid. I really did. I was against this whole thing from the start. When I was in school, I had this problem, a condition called dyslexia. I still have it. People used to make fun of me and call me “stupid,” and things like that. I was afraid the same thing might happen to you. But I was wrong. This Mackey guy seems on the level. He really seems to
want to help you.

Carl: That’s too bad. I had no idea, Dad. But tutorial class!

Jack: It’s not carved in stone you know. You can try it for a month or two, and if it doesn’t help, then you can stop. And of course, your mom and I will help you when we can. Sound alright?

Carl: Yeah, alright. I guess.

Jack: Well, it’s getting late. I’ll let you go to bed. Goodnight, Carl.
