Margot: This is a lovely place you have here.

Colin: Yeah. We get a lot of sun, especially in the afternoons, and in
summer we often have barbecues out back.

Josie: This is the bedroom we’ll be renting out. Unfortunately
there’s no furniture except this wardrobe, but as you can see,
it’s pretty spacious.

Margot: It’s wonderful. And how many people live here?

Colin: Well, there are four of us at the moment. Me and Josie, and
Greg and Wayne, who are unfortunately out at the moment.

Josie: Ever since Karen moved out, I’ve been stuck here with three
guys, so it’d be great to have another girl around.

Colin: Is this your first time flatting?

Margot: Yes. I’ve decided that it’s time I leave home. You know,
seeing I’ve started working and all.

Colin: Well, I guess I should tell you about our house rules. We are
all pretty easygoing and sociable here, but we do have a cooking
and cleaning roster. Each one of us cooks on a set night from
Sunday to Thursday, but we fend for ourselves on Friday and
Saturday nights.

Josie: Nobody’s really home to eat on those nights anyway.

Margot: Oh… I see.

Colin: And we also split the house chores between the five of us.
Shopping, vacuuming, bathroom and toilet, kitchen and garden.
We change every week.

Josie: We have a flat account which pays for all the communal costs
such as water, electricity and gas. We put in $180 each a month
which covers that and basic groceries. If you want any luxuries,
you pick them up yourself.

Margot: I see…

Colin: Do you have any questions?

Margot: No. No, I think I’ve got the picture.
