Mother and daughter No.1.
Sharon is talking to her mother on the phone. Her mother has been living on her own for several years.
Dialog

Mother: As good as can be…how’re you doing, darling?
Sharon: I’m fine. Mom, are you still into Greece?
Mother: I am! Actually, I went to an ancient Greece exhibit the other day with Ally…you remember her? Oh, she’s going to be a grandmother next spring. Don’t you think it’s wonderful? She’s been knitting cute booties for the baby…oh, Sharon, I’m not hinting anything…I’m not saying I want to be a grandmother, too. Everyone has her own life, you see…
Sharon: Mom…
Mother: Oh, what was it you wanted to hear from me? About Ally?
Sharon: No, Greece. I wondered if you and me could have a monthlong trip to Greece together, only if you’re interested.
Mother: Of course, darling. That would be brilliant! But will it be all right to be away from work that long?

そのまま使える便利なフレーズを覚えましょう。
As good as can be.
(もう最高よ。)
as … as can beは「この上なく」「最高に」という意味。「…」に色々な形容詞を入れて使ってみてください。ただ、過去の話をする時にはcan beがcould beとなることに注意。
Ex) I was as happy as (I) could be.
(私は最高に幸せだった。)
Are you still into Greece?
(まだギリシャに入れ込んでる?)
こういう場合のintoは「(趣味などに)のめり込んで、夢中になって」という意味です。
booties
(赤ちゃん用の靴下)
bootysともつづります。ちなみに英語にもいわゆる「幼児語」があるのですが、そのほとんどが「イー」という発音で終わるのが特徴です。footsie(あんよ)、pee-pee(おしっこ)など。

(何をほのめかしてるってわけじゃないからね。)
この場合のhintは「言外のほのめかす、あてこする」という意味。かわりにimplyを使っても同じ意味になります。
a monthlong trip
(一ヶ月間の旅行)
…longで「…の長さにわたる」という意味になります。yearlong(1年間の)、weeklong(一週間の)など。
That would be brilliant!
(ステキだわ!)
この場合、That will be brilliant.と言ってもいいのですが、wouldを使った方がより自然になります。wouldを使うことによって、「もしも実現したらステキだわ」(That would be brilliant if we could go.)という仮定法的な意味を示せるからです。
