"be used" で「（〜のために） 用いられる」という意味で、その後に"for" や"to"が続きます。
ex) Gravel is much used for making roads.
（砂利は道路を造るのによく用いられる）

"with"の主な意味として「〜と共に」がありますが、この場合の"with"は 「（手段や道具を表して）〜で、〜を用いて」という意味になります。
ex) eat with a fork
（フォークで食べる）
I'll have to see it with my own eyes.　
（自分の目で確かめなければならない）

"useful"は「役に立つ」という意味です。「〜に役立つ」と表現する場合は、"useful to/for"を使います。口語として「有能な、腕のよい」という意味もあります。
ex) A horse is a useful animal.
（馬は役に立つ動物だ）
The advice was very useful to me.
（その助言は私に大変役に立った）
a useful member of the firm.
（会社の有能な社員）
