Sam is engrossed in a book. His sister Maddie is curious to see what he is reading.
Maddie: You’ve had your nose stuck in that book all afternoon, Sam. What are you reading?
Sam: The Beginner’s Guide to Chinese.
Maddie: Chinese? What did you do? Go and get yourself a Chinese girlfriend or something?
Sam: No. Our company is trading with a Chinese company at the moment so I thought I’d learn a few phrases just in case I needed them.
Maddie: Hey, cool! Do you get to go to China?
Sam: I don’t know yet. But there’s only two of us working on this account, so chances are one of us will get to go within the next couple of months.
Maddie: Lucky you! Can you get me one of those cute China dresses for me while you’re there?
Sam: Hold your horses! I don’t even know if I’m going yet or not.
Maddie: Well, there’s only two of you to choose from so you have a 50-50 chance. And it’s never too early to put in an order!

「午後からずっと本に釘付けじゃない、サム」
"have one's nose stuck in a book"で、本に鼻を押し付けるというイメージから、夢中になって本を読んでいる様子を表す表現です。
I thought I'd learn a few phrases just in case I needed them.
「いざというときに備えていくつかフレーズを覚えておこうと思ったんだ」
"in case 〜"で「〜の場合に備えて」。うしろに名詞をつけるときは"in case of 〜"の形で、「〜の場合は、もし〜なら」などの意味になります。
ex: He's been stashing food in case of a disaster.
（彼は災害に備えて食料をしまっておいた）
chances are one of us will get to go within the next couple of months.
「たぶんどっちかが数ヶ月以内に行くことになると思うよ」
このように、主語として"chances"（複数形）を持ってきてその後に"that"節をもってくると、「おそらく〜だろう」となります。
ex: Chances are you'll get a big bonus this year.
（おそらく、今年のあなたはボーナスをいっぱいもらうでしょう）
Hold your horses!
「待てって！」
以前にもダイアログにできてきた"Hold your horses!"。決まり文句で「慌てないで！、落ち着いて！」という意味でしたね。「前に進もうとする馬を手綱で押さえる」イメージが語源の表現です。
ex: A:Hey, let's go!
B:Just hold your horses!
A:さあ、いくぞ！
B:慌てないでって！

Maddie: だって選ばれるのは2人のうちどっちかなんだから、50%のチャンスじゃない。それに、早めに注文しておくにこしたことないからね!
