Jennifer is attending a conference. She is lost and asks a man passing by for help.

J: Excuse me, are you here for the Trade and Development Conference?

K: Yes, I am.

J: I seem to be lost. Could you tell me where I can sign in?

K: You want to go to the Rose Room. It’s just along this corridor.
I’m on my way there myself if you want to come along.

J: That would be great! My name’s Jennifer Sanders, by the way.

K: Nice to meet you Jennifer. I’m Kevin Brown. Is this your first
time here?

J: Yes. I was supposed to come with my section manager, but she’s
laid up with a really bad cold at the moment, so I had to come on
my own. Have you attended this conference before?

K: This is my fifth time. I was supposed to come with one of my co-
workers, but he’s come down with a cold too. Well, here we are.
This is where you sign in.

J: Thanks, Kevin.

K: Say, seeing we’re both here alone, would you like to grab lunch
before the first seminar starts?

J: That sounds great!

ex: I'm sorry, we're out of stock at the moment.

“laid up (lay up)" には、いくつかの意味がありますが、ここでは with がついて、「病気などで寝込む」のイディオム。
ex: He was laid up with the flu all last week.

he's come down with a cold too.

Say, seeing we're both here alone, would you like to grab lunch before the first seminar starts?
