A: Andrew
D: So, do you see many movies Andrew?
A: Yeah, I love action movies. My favourite is Apollo 13. I’ve
seen it so many times I know it word for word.
D: You mean the one with Tom Hanks in it? I really enjoyed that
one too. Although I can’t say I know the script by heart.
A: So, what kind of movies do you like?
D: I like action movies as well, but I also really love comedy,
especially British comedy. I can’t stand any of that mushy
romantic stuff that most of my friends are into.
A: That’s pretty unusual. Most girls I meet rave about movies like
Titanic and The English Patient.
D: Nah, none of that soppy stuff interests me. I’m more entertained
by people like John Cleese and Rowan Atkinson.
A: Yeah, they are a laugh, aren’t they. Say, have you been to see
that movie Wedding Crashers yet?
D: You mean the one with Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn? No, but I
heard it’s supposed to be really funny.
A: Well, would you like to go this Saturday?
D: Sure, that sounds great!

「トム・ハンクスが出ている映画のこと？」
Mean は動詞・名詞でもさまざまな意味があるが、ここでは動詞で、
「〜を意味する、〜のことを言う、指す」と表現になる。“You mean 〜?"
「〜のことですよね？」のように、説明に対して確かめるような時に使う。
会話でもよく使われるので、覚えておきましょう。
Ex. "You mean you're going to marry him?"
（彼と結婚するということ？）

「セリフを暗記して覚えているほどじゃないけど。」
“know 〜 by heart" は、「〜を暗記している、〜をそらで覚えている」
と意味のイディオム。Know の代わりにlearnを用いることもできる。
“learn off by heart" 「丸暗記する」もあわせて覚えておくと便利
でしょう。
Ex. Timmy knows all his timestables by heart.
（ティミーは、掛け算の九九を全部覚えている。）
I can't stand any of that mushy romantic stuff that most of my friends are into.
「私の友達がはまっているような感傷的なロマンティック映画は我慢で
きないなぁ。」
into は「〜の中へ、〜にぶつかって、〜に変化して」などを表す前置詞
になるが、ここではbeを伴って、「〜にのめり込んで、熱中して、夢中に
なって、はまって」という意味になる。
Ex. I'm really into comics books

Most girls I meet rave about movies like Titanic and The English Patient.
「僕が今まで出会ったほとんどの女の子は、タイタニックやイングリッシ
ュ・ペイシェントを絶賛してたけど。」
“rave about〜" は、「〜を褒めちぎる、〜を絶賛する、〜について夢中
でしゃべる、お祭り騒ぎをする、パーッと楽しくやる」という意味のイデ
ィオム。Rave は名詞で、「うなり声、べたぼめ、夢中、ダンスパーティ、
流行、レイヴ(音楽＆ダンス)」という意味。
Ex. We raved about the restaurant to our friends.
（友達にレストランを絶賛した。）

D:オーエン・ウィルソンとヴィンス・ヴォーンの映画? まだ見てないけど、
すっごく面白いらしい。
A:じゃあ、今週の土曜日行く?
D:もちろん、いいわね!
