Ophelia and Sean are discussing their new neighbours William and Marcia after having been to their house for dinner.

O: Ophelia
S: Sean

O: Well, all I can say is that William and Marcia are certainly
an interesting couple.

S: Yeah, you can really tell who wears the pants in that
relationship, can’t you. I wonder how poor William feels about
being henpecked all the time?

O: Well, you can’t say he doesn’t ask for it sometimes. I’ve never
met anyone so unable to stand up for himself in my entire life!

S: I don’t know. I think I’d be reduced to a blithering mess too,
if I were married to Marcia. She’s got the personality of a
pro-wrestler, not to mention the physique. I wouldn’t want to
get on the wrong side of her!

O: You can say that again. And she didn’t stop talking the whole
night! I couldn’t get a word in edgeways.

S: Well, I think being treated to Marcia’s entire life story was
certainly the highlight of the evening.

O: Oh brother! I spent the last two hours praying for her to stop!

S: Well, at least one good thing has come out of this.

O: What’s that?

S: Now I know for sure that I made a good decision in marrying you!

Explanations

Yeah, you can really tell who wears the pants in that relationship, can't you.

Ex. My father wears the pants in my family.

Well, you can't say he doesn't ask for it sometimes.

Ex. He is asking for trouble.

I've never met anyone so unable to stand up for himself in my entire life!

その他、stand up を使った表現で、“stand up for 〜" 「〜を
Ex. She always stood up for her friends.

I wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of her!

“on the wrong side of" で「人に嫌われて」という意味のイディオム。
反対に、“on the good (right) side
Ex. He quickly got on the wrong side of his teacher.

I couldn't get a word in edgeways.

“get a word in edgeways" は、can を伴い否定・疑問・if節での表現
Ex. I hate going to see her. You can't get a word in edgeways.
