F: Pete, come in please, and have a seat. It’s nice to see you
again.

P: Hi Fran. A pleasure as always. It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

F: Yes, that’s right. I think the last time we met, you were about
to go on that business trip to Sydney. How was that?

P: Fine thanks. We managed to arrange everything in the first two
days, so I got to do a little sightseeing! How are the kids?

F: They’re doing fine, thanks for asking. My boy Dom has just
started the new school year after the holidays, so I can come in
to work as per usual. How are things your way?

P: Well, they’re keeping me pretty busy in the accounts department.
Expenses are being tightened a bit so that’s taking up most of my
time. But other than that, things are great.

F: Well, please give Sophie my regards. I bumped into her at the
supermarket a few weeks ago, but didn’t really have time to stop
and chat.

P: Yeah, I will do.

F: Ok, well, I suppose we’d better make a start.

P: Yes, we should probably get down to business…

"get to 〜"はこの場合「〜する機会を得る、（許可を得て）〜できる
ようになる」という意味。他には「到着する、連絡をつける、取り
掛かる、〜するようになる、影響を与える、（人を）困らせる」など
様々な意味がある。
Ex: We went to the premiere of the new James Bond movie, and I
got to shake hands with the new Bond, Daniel Craig!
（私たちは、新しいジェームズ・ボンドの映画の試写会に行って、
　　　　新しいボンド役のダニエル・クレイグと握手できたの！）

Expenses are being tightened a bit so that's taking up most of my time.

（経費がちょっと厳しく制限されているので、殆どその仕事をして
るんです。）
"tighten"は「（規則・制限などを）厳しくする、（経済的な）
余裕がなくなる」という意味。また「しっかり締める、ピンと張る、
動かないようにする」などの意味もある。
Ex: Drink-driving regulations have been tightened.
（飲酒運転に対する規制が厳しくなった。）

（そう、ソフィーに宜しく伝えて下さい。）
"give someone one's regards"は「〜に宜しくお伝え下さい」という
意味で、"regards"は「（敬意・愛情を表す）あいさつ、よろしく
との伝言」という意味。"say hello／hi to 〜", "give someone
one's wishes", "give one's compliments to 〜"などの言い方も
ある。
Ex: Please give your mother my regards.
（お母さんによろしくね。）

"踏み出す」という意味。"make +動詞"は、全体で名詞に対応する
単一動詞と同じ意味になり「動作・移動・発言・判断・試み・授与」
などを表すことが多い。例えば"make a call"「電話をする」、
"make a decision"「決定する」、"make a journey"「旅行をする」、
"make progress"「上達する」など。

P: ええ、伝えます。

F: じゃあ、始めた方が良さそうですね。

P: はい、仕事を始めるべきでしょう・・・
