Nicola is watching the local news on TV when there is a bulletin about a car accident in Richmond. She tells her husband Adam about it, as the two had driven through the town only that morning.

N: Honey, come and have a look at this! Some truck failed to take a
corner in Richmond this morning and lost its load.
A: Richmond? I wonder if it was the same truck that was behind us
when we were driving through this morning.
N: That’s what I was thinking. There was all that rain, and it was
a pretty slippery road. Apparently the truck crossed the centre
line and rammed straight into a car carrying three teenagers.
A: Were they OK?
N: They said there were no fatalities but the occupants of the car
were all rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
Wait a minute… they just said the accident happened at 11:30am.
What time did we drive through?
A: Oh, we were there earlier than that. Around 10, wasn’t it?
N: That’s right, because we stopped and had morning tea at that cute
little cafe.
A: So it can’t have been the same truck, then. We were well on our
way to Eastlake by then.
N: Still, it doesn’t make the accident any less scary.
I hope those poor kids make a quick recovery.

"apparently"は「どうやら〜らしい、見たところ、聞いたところでは」
です。"ram"は「激突する、衝突する」などの意味があり、"ram into"
で「〜に突っ込む、〜に激しくぶつかる」となります。
Ex: "Apparently, Karen had plastic surgery on her nose."
（どうやらカレン、鼻を整形したらしいね。）

"fatalities"は「死亡者（数）」の複数形で、単数形の"fatality"は
他に「災害、災難、不幸、運命」などの意味もあります。"occupant"
は「占有者、居住者、乗員、賃借人」など、ある場所や建物、乗り物等
を占有・陣取っている人のことです。"be rushed to"で「に急送される」
です。
Ex: "Bob was rushed to the nearest hospital four nights ago with
his first heart attack."

★★ We were well on our way to Eastlake by then.
（その時には僕たちはイーストレイクへ向かってる途中だったんだ。）
"on one's way"は「途中で、〜に近づいて、過程で、行きがけに」
という意味です。"on one's way home"なら「帰宅途中」、"on one's
way here"なら「ここへ来る途中」ということです。
Ex: "I ran into George on my way back here!"

A: その子たち大丈夫だったの?
N: 死亡者はいないけど、車に乗ってた人全員、重傷で病院に運ばれたって
言ってた。ちょっと待って・・・事故が起きたのは午前11時半だって。

N: そうだわ。車を停めてあのかわいい小さなカフェでモーニングティーを
飲んだものね。
A: だから同じトラックってことはありえないね、じゃあ。その時には
僕たちはイーストレイクへ向かってる途中だったんだ。
N: でもそれでこの事故の恐怖が減るわけじゃないよ。あのかわいそうな
子供たちが早く良くなることを願うわ。
