Claire: Did you watch the soccer game last night?

Ken: Yeah.

Claire: It was a good game, wasn’t it? France had so many chances, but they just didn’t capitalize.

Ken: I never knew you were keen about soccer.

Claire: I’m not! But my hubby is crazy about the sport, and every time a showcase match is on, he insists we glue ourselves to the TV and watch it together. He wouldn’t even let me go to the bathroom during the game, saying I might miss the most critical moment.

Ken: Ha, ha…he plays soccer himself?

Claire: He used to, at high school, and he very occasionally does, when he gets together with his old teammates. But whenever he plays, he always ends up hurting his knee or spraining his ankle…

今さら、かもしれませんが、本場イギリスではサッカーのことはfootballといいます。他方、アメリカでfootballというと「アメリカン・フットボール」のことを指しますね。

France had so many chances, but they just didn't capitalize.

（フランスはチャンスはいっぱいあったのに、モノにできなくて。）
capitalizeには「利用する」という意味があります。他動詞ですから本来はその後にtheir chancesが省略されているのですね。

I never knew you were keen about soccer.

（君がサッカーに興味があるなんて知らなかったよ。）

Every time a showcase match is on, he insists we glue ourselves to the TV and watch it together.

（注目の試合がある時はテレビにかじりついて一緒に見るんだってうるさいの。）
a showcase matchは「注目の試合」。showcaseには「模範の」という意味があります。glue oneself to …は「…にかじりつく」。自分自身をのり（glue）でべったりと何かにはりつける、というイメージですね。もっと「かじりつき」感をアップさせたい場合には chain oneself to（鎖でつないでおく）という表現もできます。
