Claire: Hey, Ken, have you seen this German movie?
Ken: No…I just remembered I haven’t watched movies for a while. Why, is it interesting?
Claire: I haven’t seen it, either. But the movie review said there is a lot of funny dialogue that doesn’t quite make it through the subtitles. So I wondered if you saw it and got all the funny lines in its original language.
Ken: Claire, you’re giving me too much credit. I said I did German at college, but I was never good at it.
Claire: I wish I did some foreign language as a student, too.
Ken: Didn’t you do any?
Claire: I could, but I was too keen about my social life then, and I did without any academic stuff I wasn’t required to take.
Ken: Why don’t you start studying now? Better late than never.
Claire: What do you mean? Am I too old but still, it’s “better late than never”?

（でも映画評によると、字幕ではいまひとつ表現しきれないおもしろいやりとりがいっぱいあるんですって。）
that doesn't quite make it through the subtitlesは少々難しいかもしれませんね。make itは「やり遂げる」「成就させる」ということなので、「字幕を通しては今ひとつうまく作り出すことのできない」という意味になるのです。ちなみに、dialogueという名詞は数えたり数えなかったりします。数える場合は「（外交上などの）対話」という意味で使うことが多く、「（日常的な）会話」の場合には今回のように不加算で用いることが多いようです。

（でね、ケンが見て原語でおもしろいところを全部わかったかなと思って。）
こういう場合のgotは「理解した」という意味。
You're giving me too much credit.
（君は僕を買いかぶってるよ。）
give … too much creditで「…を買いかぶる」ということ。creditには「信頼」（故に「クレジットカード」と言うのですよね）「名誉」といった意味があります。
I did without any academic stuff I wasn't required to take.
（とらなくていい授業はやらずに終わったのよ。）
do withoutは「なしですませる」。academic stuffとは「学業的なもの」、すなわち「授業」のことを言っています。
Better late than never.
（やらないよりはましだよ。）
「遅れてもしないよりはまし」という意味のことわざです。「遅れても来ないよりはまし」という文脈で使われることが多いです。

K: 今からでも始めれば?やらないよりはましだよ。
C: ちょっと、どういうことよ?私は年とりすぎてるけど「遅くてもやらないよりはまし」ってこと?
