福島第一原子力発電所は、the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plantあるいはthe No. 1 nuclear plant in Fukushima Prefectureと言います。今回の原発の事故の一連の内容を指してthe crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plantと言います。evacueesは避難所などで生活している「避難者」。take comfort inは「...に慰めを見いだす」。ちなみに、「放射性物質の流出」はradioactive releaseと言います。「避難所」のことはan evacuee centerと言います。

What we hear at press conferences is full of technical terms, and those people rarely explain backgrounds.

press conferenceは「記者会見」、technical termは「専門用語」。

I don't think any ordinary Japanese is familiar with the unit.

（普通の日本人でミリシーベルトっていう単位に親しんでいる人っていないと思うわ。）
the unit（単位）はここではミリシーベルトのことを受けています。
