Joan: Wonderful. You’ve been such a help, darling. Thank you.

Rita: Don’t mention it, Ms. Sommerville.

Joan: Call me Jane, dear. You know I don’t like all that formality…Anyway, do you think I’ve over-packed? I mean, I do have 4 suitcases, but I am going for two weeks.

Rita: I think it’s just right.

Joan: You know my ex used to always complain about how much I’d bring. Of course, he was the ultimate minimalist packer. Though, everything with him was always so minimalist: that was the problem.

Rita: Do you ever talk to your husband anymore?

Joan: Oh, god no. We need lawyers to handle any necessary discussion. Otherwise we’d be at each other’s throats. I haven’t seen him for over five years. I don’t mind, but I think it’s been hard on Audrey. The poor dear. I think she wishes her father and I would at least talk. She’s been such a trooper through the whole thing – never once complaining or taking a side.

Rita: That’s quite incredible.

Joan: I know. And now she’s gone and booked me on this cruise. She’s a wonderful daughter.

Rita: She sounds like it. Oh, your taxi’s here.

Joan: Well, I’m off. Ta, Ta.
