Flash forward to a few days later. Audrey is out with her mother now for Mother's Day, and she has a very interesting present for her.

Joan: Oh, Audrey, this restaurant is so lovely. I’m so happy you brought me here.

Audrey: Well, I know you like it here. I figured it was the least I could do for you on Mother’s Day.

Joan: Oh, well, you’re so thoughtful, darling, thank you.

Audrey: I also got you a little something else.

Joan: Audrey, you shouldn’t have.

Audrey: I know you’ve been very busy these days. Especially with the new hotel contract –

Audrey: Anyway, I got you something that I think will help you take your mind off things.

Joan: A Caribbean cruise! Audrey, darling, I don’t know what to say…baby, thank you!

Audrey: Don’t mention it, mom. You deserve this.

Joan: You know the last time I went on a cruise was with your penny-pinching father. We went to Alaska – third class! He was so cheap that he would sneak food out of the breakfast buffet to avoid paying for lunch. He finally got caught sneaking lobsters out of the seafood buffet, when one of them pinched him and they all dropped out from under his coat. I was so embarrassed I didn’t show my face above deck for the rest of the trip.

Audrey: Mom, you know Dad means well. Anyway, this time you’ll be in first class, and all of your meals are paid for. The ticket’s all-inclusive.

Joan: Oh, I’m so excited. Thank you, Audrey.

Here we have a surprisingly similar dialogue to the previous one. Again Audrey is giving away first class cruise tickets, but this time the recipient is her mother. Audrey's plan is starting to become clear now. She has purposely booked her estranged parents on the same cruise; however, her reasons for doing this will become clear in later dialogues. At the moment, it seems strange that she would do this, seeing as though her parent seem to dislike each other so. In this dialogue, Joan refers to Sam as "penny-pinching." This is an expression that means cheap. Usually the person in question is very tight with money; Sam, however, takes this notion to extremes by stealing from a buffet. This is a common expression; and it can be used as an adjective, as in the case of this dialogue, or as a noun - "penny pincher."

Joan: 最後にクルーズに行ったときは、あなたのけちんぼなお父さんと一緒だったわ。アラスカに行ったのよ−しかも三等で！彼はとてもケチだったから、朝食のビュッフェから食べ物をくすねて、昼食代を浮かしたの。で、とうとう、シーフードビュッフェからロブスターをくすねてつかまったのよ。一匹のロブスターに挟まれて、コートの下から全部落ちちゃってね。私はとっても恥ずかしくて、その後は旅が終わるまでデッキに顔をだせなかったわよ。

Audrey: ママ、パパは一生懸命なのよ。とにかく、今回は一等だし、食事も全部支払い済よ。すべて込みのチケットなの。

Joan: おやまあ、ワクワクするわね。ありがとう、オードリー。
