Ryan: Where do you want me to put these?

Margot: The pots? In the cupboard underneath the sink, I think.

Ryan: Wow, you have some good quality cookware here. Is cooking a
hobby?

Margot: Er… yes. Yes it is. How do you know so much about cookware?

Ryan: Oh, my father is a chef. My brother and sister and I spent our
childhood watching him create new recipes in our kitchen at home.
We were great taste testers! Hey, why don’t we have a pot luck
dinner once you’re settled in? I’d love to swap recipes.

Margot: Aaahhh, ahem. Yes, that would be lovely. So Ryan, what do you
do for a living?

Ryan: I’m a restaurant critic.

Margot: A what? Er, I mean, what does that involve?

Ryan: Well, it basically entails going around all the restaurants in
the city, eating their food and writing reviews about them. I
have a column in the Times, you see. And I’m working on my
first book at the moment.

Margot: Really? Er, how fascinating.

Ryan: And what do you do?

Margot: Oh, I’m a secretary at a law firm.

Ryan: Is that right? Do you enjoy it?

Margot: Well, I’ve only been there for a couple of months, but it’s
very interesting. My workmates are all very nice and the bosses
are wonderful. I’m still learning the ropes though.

Ryan: It always takes a few weeks to settle in. Oh, is that the time?
Look, I’ve got to go. I promised a friend I’d meet him at 6:30.
Will you be OK?

Margot: Oh yes. My friend Zoe said she’d pop around at 7:00 to give me
a hand so I won’t be stuck doing this all myself. Thank you for
all your help today, Ryan. You’ve been a godsend.

Ryan: No problem. And listen, I’ll give you a few days to settle in,
but why don’t we have that pot luck dinner next Saturday night?

Margot: Oh… sure… That sounds wonderful.
