I was just throwing something together for dinner.

(夕飯に簡単な物を作ってたの。)

“throw 〜 together” で「〜を急いで作る、〜をパッと作る」という
意味。リラックスした感じで簡単に作るというニュアンスがある。パッ
と簡単に食事を作るときによく使われている。
Ex. We're just throwing together a few dishes for the party
tonight.
(今夜のパーティーのために料理を何品かパッと作っている。)

You're pulling my leg!

(冗談だろう!)

“to pull one's leg” で「〜をからかう、だます」という意味。相手の
言っていることが信じがたいと思うときに使う表現。他にも、“to have
someone on”、“to kid someone”、“to wind someone up”、“to
　　make sport of someone” など、いろいろな言い方がある。
Ex. “Chris and Tina are engaged!”
“You're pulling my leg! I thought they hated each other!”
「クリスとティーナが婚約しているの!」
「うそでしょ!あの二人、お互いのこと嫌いだったと思ってた!」

I've been trying my hand in the kitchen and I’m not too bad if I do say so myself.

(料理してみようと思ってさぁ。自分で言うのもなんだけど、私けっこういけるわよ。)

“to try one's hand” で「試しにやってみる、腕を試す」という意味。
始めに何かをやってみるときに使う表現。
Ex. I think I might try my hand at skydiving.
(私は、スカイダイビングをやってみようかな。)

I never thought I'd see the day.

(こんな日が来るとは思わなかった。)

“I never thought I'd see the day ” で「こんな日がくるとは思って
も見なかった」という意味。“I never thought I'd see the day when
〜” 「〜という日がくるとは思っても見なかった」という使い方が
よくある。あり得ないと思ったことが起きたときに、自分の驚きを表す
表現になる。
Ex. I never thought I'd see the day when Charlie would settle
down and get married.
(チャーリーが落ち着いて、結婚する日が来ると思わなかった。)

OK, now for the obvious question, what's all this in aid of?

(それじゃぁ、バカなこと聞くけど、これは何のためにやってるのさ?)

“What's 〜 in aid of?”で「〜は何のためにやっていますか?」という
意味。“aid” で「援助、補助、助ける、応援」という意味になり、
“in aid of 〜” で「〜の助けに、〜のために」という意味になる。
Ex. This telethon is in aid of the starving people in Africa.
(今回の24時間テレビは、アフリカで飢えている人々のためです。)

I just thought maybe it was time I learned how to cook.

(そろそろ料理を覚えたほうがいいと思っただけよ。)

“it's time one 〜” で「そろそろ〜する時間になる、〜をしてもいい

You know, once you get the hang of it, it's not that difficult.

(一回慣れればそんなに難しくないわよ。)

“get the hang of 〜” で、「〜に慣れる、〜のコツをつかむ」という
意味。反対は、“lose the hang of” となる。
Ex. I think I've got the hang of my new job now.
(もう、新しい仕事のコツをつかんだとおもう。)
