Gavin: Hey Tracey, do you want to go out for lunch? It’s my shout!

Tracey: Well, this is unusual. Since when have you started treating people to lunch?

Gavin: Just today. I’m feeling rather rich right now, so I’m in the mood for some good food!

Tracey: How did you get so rich? Did you rob a bank or something?

Gavin: No, nothing like that. I had a bit of a flutter on the horses yesterday and my horse came in big time!

Tracey: No way! How much did you make?

Gavin: Let’s just say it was a pretty penny.

Tracey: Oh, come on! You can tell me! Exactly how much?

Gavin: Oh, all right. But this is just between you and me – I made $20,000.

「昨日、ちょこっと競馬をしてね、自分が賭けた馬が大当たりしたんだよ！」
"have a flutter"で「（競馬などで）ちょっとした賭けをする」という意味。イギリス英語です。また、"come in big time"は「大当たりする」。
ex: Just about everyone in Britian and Ireland has had a flutter on the Grand National.
（ほとんどすべてのイギリス人とアイルランド人は、グランドナショナルで賭けたことがある）

「まあ、かなりの額ってとこだね」
"penny"だけだと小額のお金をさしますが、"pretty penny"では「大金」となります。　
ex: You'll save a pretty penny by planning your honeymoon close to home.
（近場でのハネムーンを計画すれば、かなりの額を節約することができますよ）

「でもこれはだれにもヒミツだぞ」
"just between you and me"は、「私とあなただけの間」、そこから転じて、「ここだけの話だけど」。
ex: What happened last night is between you and me -- no one else.
（昨日のことはヒミツだぞ。誰にも言うな）
