Lester: Aw, Edith, will you come on! We’re going to miss the train.
Edith: Hold on, Lester. They’re putting my luggage on a trolley.
Lester: (to himself) You’d think she was moving half-way across the world with that amount of luggage. Hey!, Hey, Edith, is all that really necessary? We’re only going to be gone a few days.
Edith: I know, but I heard the weather changes really suddenly out on the east coast, so I want to be prepared.
Lester: What’d you bring a flood-kit? I can’t believe they’re letting you on the train.
Edith: Better be safe than sorry, I always say.
Lester: Yeah, well, I’m the sorry one. It’s gonna be me hauling all that safety around.

"miss"は「逃す」、「免れる」、「〜がないのを惜しむ」など、いろいろな意味がある言葉です。ここでは、"miss the train"で「電車に乗りそこなう、乗り遅れる」という意味で使われています。
ex: Fortunately I missed the accident.

「ちょっと待って、レスター」
"hold on"で「ちょっと待ってて」。"wait a moment"などと同様に、相手を呼び止めたり、短時間待たせるときに使う表現です。電話で「切らずにそのままお待ちください」という表現としても使われます。
ex: "Do you have MOUNTAIN BIKE MAGAZINE?"
"Hold on a minute...I'm sorry but we don't have them in stock."

"let ＋人＋副詞句"で、「（人を〜に）動かす、通す」という表現です。
ex: A clerk took our tickets before letting us into the exhibition hall.
（係員がチケットを回収した後、僕たちは展示室に通された。）
Better be safe than sorry
「"Better (be) safe than sorry"で「後悔するより安全策を取る方が良い」。
「石橋をたたいて渡る」「転ばぬ先の杖」などに相当する、ことわざです。同様な意味のことわざ表現として、他に、"Providing is preventing"、" wear a belt and braces"、" make assurance double sure"などがあります。
