Cody is telling Megan about a half marathon he and his friend Kevin ran.

C: Cody
M: Megan

M: How did the half marathon go, Cody? Did you and Kevin make it
to the end OK?

C: Yeah, we both finished, but I don’t believe Kevin. He put on
this huge spurt with half a kilometre to go, but I’d run out of
steam by then and he just ran off without me.

M: That was a bit of a nasty thing to do. I thought you guys had
made a pact to run together to the end.

C: Yeah, you might want to remind Kevin of that little promise for
me. I mean, I spent half the race pacing myself so that he
could keep up with me. How was I to know he was a strong
finisher?

M: Did you talk to him after the race?

C: No. I was so mad by the time I’d finished that I went straight
home without saying a word to him. But I did manage to get some
revenge though.

M: How?

C: I didn’t realise it until I got home, but he left his bag with
his wallet, cell phone and house keys in my car. He’s going
to have a rough time getting home!

（ラストスパートがきくなんてどうやって分かるって言うのさ？）
“strong finisher" で「ラストスパートがきく、最後の頑張りが強い」
という意味。競走、水泳などのレースの最後に力が出る選手に対して
使うことが多い。“finisher" で「完成者、完走者」という意味になる。
Ex. Thorpe is renowned as a strong finisher.
（ソープ選手は、ラストスパートがきく選手として有名。）

He's going to have a rough time getting home!

（あいつは帰るのに苦労するぞ！）
“a rough time" で「つらい経験、大変な時期、難しい経験」という
意味。“to have a rough time" で「ひどい目に遭う、苦労する、
つらい目に遭う」という意味になる。他に“have a bad time"、
“have a tough time"、“have a rugged time"、“have a trying
time" という言い方もある。
