B: Brad
L: Librarian
B: Excuse me. Hi. I need to get some reference materials and stuff
for this report I’m doing on the provincial government. Where
would I find them?
L: Political periodicals are located in the back behind the
encyclopaedias.
B: Thanks.
L: Uh…One moment. Are you planning on taking any of them out?
B: Well, yeah. I have to do a report, so I sort of need them.
L: We don’t lend out reference materials and periodicals.
B: You don’t?
L: No.
B: Can I at least copy them?
L: That’s fine, but you’ll need to buy a copy card.
B: Where would I get that from?
L: You can buy them here. They start at five dollars.
B: Five dollars! How many copies do I get with that?
L: 50.
B: Alright. Here’s five bucks. I’ll take one.
L: Here you are.
B: Is there anything else I should know?
L: No that’s all.
B: Thanks. You’ve been so very helpful.

I need to get some reference materials and stuff for this report I'm doing on the provincial government.
「州政府についてのレポートのために参考資料を探しているんですが。」
“doing"は、「今起こっていること、今実行していること、これから始め
ること、〜している」を表す。ここでは、「今書いているレポート」と
いう表現になる。会話でよく聞く表現なので、是非使ってみよう！
Ex. I'm doing a study about pollution.
（汚染についての研究をしています。）
Are you planning on taking any of them out?
「貸し出しを希望ですか？」
“be planning on 〜"で、「〜をしようとしている、〜をやろうと思って
いる」という意味のイディオム。この場合、on の後に続く動詞はing形
になる。
Ex. Are you planning on visiting your relatives?
（親戚に会いに行きますか？）
Well, yeah. I have to do a report, so I sort of need them.
「ええ、そうですけど。レポートを書かなくちゃいけないので、ちょっと必要なんですけど。」
ここでの“sort of"は、「少し、ちょっと」という意味で使われている。
また、「〜のようなもの、〜みたいな、一種の」などはっきりと断定でき
ない時に使える表現。
Ex. I feel sort of funny.
（ちょっと気分悪い。）
Here's five bucks.
「はい、5ドル。」
“buck"には動詞・名詞ともにさまざまな意味があるが、ここでは「ドル・
金」のこと。"a buck"は「1ドル」で、1ドル以上になる場合はbuck
に"s"を付けることを忘れずに！とてもよく使うので、覚えておきましょ
う。
Ex. Can you lend me ten bucks?
（10ドルを貸してくれる？）
