O: Oliver
L: Hi honey. Hope you didn’t have to wait here too long.
O: Nah, I called the airport to check what time your flight was
coming in and they told me there’d been a delay.
Hey, I just saw David Beckham over by the luggage area now.
Was he on your flight?
L: David Beckham?! I didn’t see him. But then, I was one of the
first to board and I didn’t really pay much attention to anyone
who got on after me. But you’d think there would’ve been a
bit more of a fuss if he’d been on the same plane.
O: I overheard him telling someone that the departure had been
held up because some guy who had checked his luggage in didn’t
board the plane.
L: Really? Well, it must have been the same flight then.
They ended up having to search the hold for his suitcases and
take them off the plane so we could leave. But wow, I was on
the same plane as David Beckham and I never realised it!
Is he still around?
O: He was standing just over there… Oh, it looks like he’s gone now.
L: What a bummer! That would’ve been a great story to tell the
girls at work about on Monday.
What do you think he’s here for, anyway?
O: I think he’s involved in some soccer camp they’re holding
this weekend. You know, down at Park Island.
L: Wow, maybe I’ll have to go and check it out!

★★ But you'd think there would've been a bit more of a fuss if he'd been on the same plane.
（でももし同じ飛行機に彼が乗ってたら、もうちょっと大騒ぎになって
ると思わない？）
"more of"は「より一層の、一層多くの」で、"fuss"は「空騒ぎ、
騒動、興奮」です。"there"以下の文と、その後ろの"if"以下の文は、
順番は逆にできます。
これは、「もし〜だったら、〜していただろう（if 主語 had過去分詞、
主語 would have 過去分詞）」ということです。過去に完了している事
の条件によって、実際の状況は現在とは違っていただろう、という仮定
の文型です。
Ex: If I had known it was going to rain, I would have brought
an umbrella.
（もし雨が降るって知ってたら、傘を持ってきたのに。）
★★★Is he still around?
（まだその辺にいるかな？）
"be around"は「その辺にいる、近くに居合わせる、やってくる」、
他にも「流行している、生き延びる、現役でいる」の意味があります。
Ex: If James is around, I'll have to tell him Chris's message.
（もしジェイムズがその辺にいるなら、クリスの伝言を伝えなきゃ。）
★★ Oh, it looks like he's gone now.
（あ〜、もう行っちゃったみたいだね。）
"look like"は「〜のようにみえる」という意味です。"have gone"
で「行ってしまって（今はいない）」「〜に逃げられて（今はいない）」
「症状が治って（今は大丈夫）」などその他、主語によっても違って
きますが、イメージとして「どこかに行ってしまっている
（それがもうここにはない）」のような感じです。さらに他の用法も
あるので多様に使えます。
Ex: Nancy has gone to Tokyo on business.
（ナンシーは東京出張で不在です。）

見かけて興奮している。

L: ああ、ハニー。 待ちくたびれてなければいいんだけど。
O: いや、君の便が何時に着くか空港に電話したら、遅れてるって言ってたから。
あ、ねえ今手荷物のとこでデビッド・ベッカム見たよ。同じ飛行機だったの?
L: デビッド・ベッカム?! 見なかったよ。私は最初の方に搭乗したけど、
後から乗った人をそんな気にしてなかったし。でももし同じ飛行機に彼が
乗ってたら、もうちょっと大騒ぎになってると思わない?
O: 彼が誰かに話してるのが聞こえたんだけど、手荷物を預けてた男が飛行機
に乗らなかったんで出発が遅れてたって。
L: ほんとに? じゃあ同じ便に違いないわね。結局、飛行機の手荷物室から
その男性のスーツケースを探し出して降ろして、それで出発できたの。
でも、うわあ、デビッド・ベッカムと同じ飛行機に乗ってたんだぁ、
全然気がつかなかった!まだその辺にいるかな?
O: ちょうど向こうに立ってたよ・・・ あ〜、もう行っちゃったみたいだね。
L: がっかり! 月曜に職場の子達に話す格好のネタになったのに。
まぁとにかく、なんで彼がここに来たんだと思う?
O: 今週末に行われる彼らのサッカーキャンプに参加するんだと思うよ。
ほら、あの、パークアイランドで。
L: わぁお、行って見てこようかな!
