Dialog

Claire and her husband Dave are at home.

Claire: Honey, you don’t wear this T-shirt, do you? Can I take it to a thrift shop?

Dave: What? Wait a minute! What are you doing anyway?

Claire: Cleaning our closet…what do you think I’m doing? Honey, this shirt has been sitting in this closet since we moved in…what, five years ago? I have never seen you in this. We need more room here, so I want to take this to the store along with some other old clothes of mine.

Dave: But you can’t do that…this is the T-shirt I wore for the very last soccer match I had at highschool. This is the very item that is filled with my old memories. You can’t throw it away!

Claire: I’m not throwing it away. I’m taking it to a thrift store so someone else can utilize it.

Dave: Darling, utility is not at issue here. You too have sweet, unforgettable memories that you cannot discard, right?

Claire: Well, I do, but I don’t dwell on them.

Dave: I’m not saying I’m dwelling on my memories just because I keep my T-shirt! Why can’t you understand?

Explanations

Can I take it to a thrift shop?

Cleaning our closet…what do you think I'm doing?

What do you think I'm doing?

This shirt has been sitting in this closet since we moved in…what, five years ago?

Utility is not at issue here.

… is not at issueで「それが問題なのではない」となります。

I don't dwell on them.

dwell onは「…
Ex) You shouldn't dwell on your own miseries.
