Ken is at his old college, asking if he could contact his former academic supervisor.

K: Excuse me.

Woman at the administration office: Yes, can I help you?

K: Yes. My name is Ken Turner, from class of 1997, business major. I’m thinking of applying to business school, and I wondered if my former academic supervisor, Prof. Roach, could write a recommendation letter for me.

W: I see. I’ll contact Prof. Roach’s secretary, so will you wait for a few minutes? Please be seated.

K: Thank you.

W: (A couple of minutes later) Mr. Turner!…I’ve just talked to his secretary, and she said the professor would like to have your request in written form.

K: Um…but the problem is, I’m rather in a hurry…I really should have contacted him earlier, but I was so busy with my work, and I need to know at least today whether he would write the letter for me or not.

W: OK. Here’s what I can do for you. I’ll talk to the secretary again, but it might take time…so why don’t you leave me your contact number so I can get back to you later in the day?

Explanations

My name is Ken Turner, from class of 1997, business major.

I graduated from this school in …

I wondered if my former academic supervisor, Prof. Roach, could write a recommendation letter for me.

She said the professor would like to have your request in written form.

「文書で」はこの他にも、in writing, in a written documentなどと言えます。

Here's what I can do for you.

Ex) Here's what you can do.

Why don't you leave me your contact number so I can get back to you later in the day?
