前回に引き続き、イディオムをとりあげます。can't begin to ってどういう意味でしょう?実は日本人向きのフレーズなんですよ。

（実は、クレアに直接会いたいって言ってたんだ。）
in personは「本人が直接に」という意味。
Sorry I failed to fill you in on this.
（ごめん、このこと伝えるの、忘れてた。）
fail toは「〜することを怠る」。fill 人 in on …で「（人）に…について教える」。
I can't begin to thank you enough.
can't begin to …は「とうてい…できない」という意味なので、この1文の直訳は「とうていあなたに感謝することはできない」となります。can't begin toの後にはimagineやunderstandなどが来ることが多いです。ちなみに、I can't begin to thank you enough.はていねいにお礼を言いたい時に重宝するフレーズです。是非マスターして自分のものにして下さい。
