Following Grace's advice from the previous dialogue Barbara is taking the bull by the horns by calling meeting after meeting. However in her attempt to be a "proactive" vice president it seems that she is in fact just wasting time. Brian certainly doesn't appreciate the fact that she has called yet another meeting, and Ted is worried because this meeting conflicts potentially with another important meeting that he has this afternoon. The word "proactive" is a very commonly used business term that became kind of a catch phrase to describe a very active, hands-on approach to business. Many companies adopted this word into their mission statements, making it almost a universal law of business. Its meaning is kind of strange: "in favor of activity." I mean in that case why not just say "active." I guess people in the business world just wanted a way to say active-plus, or something like that. Anyway strange as it may be, proactive, is a very popular term in the business world.
