Max: Hello, Max Freeling speaking.

God: Afternoon, Max. How are things?

Max: Oh, it’s you.

God: Yes. It’s been a while. Seems like things are going pretty well for you.

Max: Yeah, yeah. I definitely feel better about things, and I’ve been seeing someone. Her name’s Tina. I like her. You know, she’s a lot of fun and very frisky…if you know what I mean.

God: Yes. That’s good, Max.

Max: So now that I’ve got everything under control, I guess I won’t be hearing from you again.

God: I don’t know if you should think about this as getting things under control, Max. I mean, the idea here is to sort of lose control… in a way.

Max: I don’t understand. I’ve been thinking about things, and working hard to mend my ways.

God: I know you have, Max, and I’m proud of you. I think things will become very clear to you soon. But in the meantime, I’m going to stick around just a bit longer.

Max: Alright. So I guess I’ll be talking to you, then?

God: Just for a little while more. Take care, Max.

A month has past since Max last spoke with God. We learn in this dialogue that Max has met someone new and has been seeing her for a short while. Max thinks that he has reached the end of his journey and now he can just sit back and relax. However, God warns Max that he still has a little further to go yet. We shall see in the coming dialogues that Max was wrong to be so complacent. He still has one more hurdle. When someone says they "have mended their ways", it means that they given up a bad habit, or a kind of lifestyle that is not generally looked upon favourably (e.g. a life of crime). It's a very common and useful expression.

マックスが最後に神と話をしてから１ヵ月が経ちました。このダイアログでは、マックスが新しい誰かと出会い、しばらく彼女とつきあっていることがわかります。マックスは自分の旅は終わり、今ではゆったり座ってくつろいでいられると思っています。しかし、神は、まだもう少し進まなければならないと、マックスに警告します。次回のダイアログでは、マックスが現状に満足していてはいけなかったことが分かるでしょう。まだもう一つ試練が残っています。"have mended their ways"と言う場合、悪い習慣や、一般的に好意的に受け止められないライフスタイル（たとえば、犯罪漬けの生活）を止めたという意味です。とてもよく使われて、便利な表現です。

Max: わかったよ。それじゃ、君とまた話をするんだね？

God: ほんのもう少しの間よ。じゃあね、マックス。
