“on one's (the) way”は「途中で、出かけるところで、進行中で、
近づいて、妊娠して」という意味。“way” を使ったイディオムには、
“in the way”「じゃまになって」、“all the way”「始めから終わり
まで、(途中)ずっと、はるばる」、“show the way”「手本を示す」、
“in some way”「どうにかして、何とかして」など。“way” を使った
イディオムは、他にもたくさんある。
Ex: “Can you get some eggs on the way home?” “Sure.”
「家に帰る途中で、卵を買ってきてくれる?」 「いいよ。」

We drew straws to decide who would make everyone dinner and he lost.

(誰が皆に夕食を作るかを、くじを引いて決めたの。それで、彼が負けたのよ。)

“draw straws” は「くじを引いて決める」という意味。他には、
“draw lots”, “cast lots”, “decide by a drawing”,
“draw lots to decide”などの良い方がある。
Ex: Let's draw straws to decide who cleans the toilet!
(誰がトイレ掃除をするか、くじを引いて決めよう!)

(ブレア、家の中をミランダに案内してくる間、シンシアを手伝って盛り付けをしてくれないか?)

“give the grand tour” は「(建物の中を)案内する」という意味。
“the grand tour” は、「その昔、英国貴族やアメリカの裕福な家庭の
子弟が、教育の仕上げに行ったヨーロッパ大陸巡遊旅行」という意味
だが、現在では建物の中を案内する時に、おどけた言い方として使われる。
Ex: I'll give you the grand tour.
(ご案内します。)

She's spent the last couple of years doing the place up in her spare time.

(この2、3年、彼女の暇な時間を家の改装に費やしたんだ。)

“do up” は、ここでは「改装する、手入れする、掃除する、修理する」
という意味。他には、「(衣服のボタンを)留める、かける、小包にする
包む、飾る、着飾る、化粧する、結い上げる」という意味もある。
Ex: I want to do my shop up.
(私の店を改装したい。)

Nick and I think she went overboard with the marble, though.

(ニックと僕は、彼女が大理石を使い過ぎたと思うけどね。)

“go overboard” は「極端に走る、行き過ぎる」という意味。
“overboard” は「船外に」という意味。 他には、“go to excess”,
“go whole-hog”, “go to extremes”, “go off the deep end”
などの言い方がある。
Ex: You went overboard teasing her. She was nearly in tears.
(君は、彼女をからかい過ぎたよ。彼女、もう少しで泣きそう
だった。)

(かなり荒れ果てて、)

“run-down” は「荒廃した、荒れ果てた、倒れそうな、疲れ果てた、
疲れきった、体調が悪い」という意味。“run” を使ったイディオム
には、“run against 〜”「〜に対抗する、と戦う」、“run behind”
「(予定の時間などに)遅れる」、“run out”「(在庫品などが)
なくなる、(忍耐力などが)尽きる、(期限・契約などが)切れる、
走っていく、流れ出る、突き出る」、“run into 〜”「〜思いがけなく
会う、〜にぶつかる、〜の中へ走って(急いで)入る、(苦しい状況
などに)陥る、合流する」などがある。
Ex: That run-down house is a famous haunted mansion.
(あの荒れ果てた家が有名な幽霊屋敷だよ。)
