Sharlene: Hi, is this seat taken?

Daniel: No. Go ahead.

Sharlene: Are you new here?

Daniel: Yeah, it’s my first day.

Sharlene: Thank God for that! It’s mine too. My name’s Sharlene.

Daniel: Hi, Sharlene. I’m Daniel.

Sharlene: It’s such a relief to find someone in the same boat as me. Maybe it’s just me, but I get the feeling that the people in this office don’t have much time for newcomers.

Daniel: No, it’s not just you. I was thinking the same thing. I’ve hardly had a word spoken to me since I arrived this morning.

Sharlene: Tell me about it. I said “Good morning” to the people in my section when I came in this morning and they all just looked at me like I had some kind of disease.

Daniel: Me too. Looks like us newies’ll have to stick together!

"It's such a relief to..."は、「〜でホッとする」。"in the same boat as 〜"で、「〜と同じボートに乗っている」から転じて、「〜と同じ境遇である」。好ましくない境遇を示唆しています。
