G: Hey, weren’t your folks going to Hawaii this week?
J: Yeah, they flew out on Wednesday. Honestly, I can’t trust those
two to go anywhere without causing a ruckus.
G: How’s that?
J: I just talked to them this morning, and you’ll never believe
what happened on the flight to Honolulu. You know how Mom likes
to have a few, right? Well, I told her before she left to go
easy on the booze on the plane, right? Because, like, she’d
never flown before and you know how alcohol tends to go to your
head when you’re in the air.
G: Oh no, let me guess what happened, she got pissed on the plane?
J: Worse. She got all excited with the free wine they were handing
out, and just started throwing back the drinks. Then, all of a
sudden, she turned to Dad and said she felt queasy, and before
he knew it, she’d barfed all over him.
G: Get out of here! In the middle of the plane?!
J: I’m serious! And to make things worse, it was a full flight!
Can you imagine having to put up with the smell all the way to
Honolulu?
G: Eughh, that’s gross. Why didn’t she go to the can? Or use one
of those barf-bags they tuck into your seat?
J: From what Dad was telling me, by the time she realised it was all
coming back up, she didn’t have enough time to react.
G: Boy! Remind me never to travel with your mother!

“ruckus"はアメリカの俗語で「騒動、騒々しいけんか、抗議、文句、
口論」という意味。イギリス英語では“ruction“と言う。
Ex: The prime minister caused a ruckus when he suddenly resigned
amid allegations of bribery.
（総理大臣は突然、贈収賄疑惑の中で辞職して、騒ぎを起こした。）
You know how Mom likes to have a few, right?
（母が、ちょっと飲むのが好きなのは知ってるでしょ？）
“how"はこの場合「ということ」という意味になる。“you know how 〜."
は「〜ということは知っている・分かるでしょ」という意味。“have a
few"は“a few"の後に“drinks"が省略されており、“have a few
drinks"「少しお酒を飲む」という意味。
Ex: You know how she lives in Fukushima?
（彼女が福島に住んでいるのは、知っているでしょう。）

“How's that?"は「それはどういうことですか、これでどうですか、
それについてどう思いますか、もう一度言ってください」という意味で、
カジュアルな言い方。
Ex: “I don't like her." “How's that?"
「私、彼女が嫌いなの。」「どうして？」
Get out of here!
（うそだろ！）
“Get out of here."は「ここから出て行け。」という意味だが、この
場合は、「うそでしょ、まさか、信じられない、あり得ない」という
意味で、相手が言ったことが信じ難い場合に使う表現。“That can't be
true.", “You've got to be kidding."などと同じ意味。
Ex: “Lola is getting married to a billionaire."
“Get out of here!"
「ローラが億万長者と結婚するのよ。」
「あり得ない！」

“put up with"は「（人・言動）を我慢する、耐える」という意味。
類語には、“bear", “endure", “tolerate"などがあるが、
それらよりくだけた語。「じっと耐える」というよりも「しょうがない
と諦める」軽い気持ちを表す。
Ex: I have to put up with my boss's selfishness.
（私の上司のわがままには、耐えなければならない。）

何があったか信じられないわよ。母が、ちょっと飲むのが好きなのは
知ってるでしょ?母が出る前に、飛行機の中では、お酒は控える
ようにって、言ったのよ。だって、ほら、母は飛行機に乗ったことが
ないし、空中にいるときは、お酒が頭にのぼりやすいのを知っている
でしょ。
G: あー、何があったか当ててみるよ、飛行機の中で、ベロベロに酔った?
J: もっと悪いの。配っていた無料のワインに興奮して、それを飲み
始めたの。そしたら、突然、母が父の方を向いて、ちょっと吐き気が
するって言って、あっという間に、父の全身に吐いたの。
G: うそだろ!飛行機の中で?!
J: 本当よ!それで、さらに悪いことに、満席だったの!ホノルルまで、
その臭いに耐えなきゃならないなんて、想像できる?
G: あぁぁぁ、気持ち悪い。 何でお母さんは、トイレに行かなかったの?
それか、座席に押し込んである、エチケット袋を使えば?
J: 父が私に言うには、母が気付いたときには、逆流していて、反応する
時間なんて無かったって。
G: いやいや!君のお母さんとは絶対に旅行したくないな!
