One summer evening during a violent thunderstorm a mother was tucking her small boy into bed. She was about to turn off the light when he asked with a tremor in his voice, "Mommy, will you sleep with me tonight?"

The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring hug. "I can't " she said. "I have to sleep in Daddy's room."

A long silence was broken at last by his shaky little voice:
"The big sissy."

　ものすごい雷が鳴り響くある夏の日の夜、お母さんはまだちいさな息子を毛布でつつんでベッドに寝かせた。お母さんが電気を消そうとすると、息子は震える声で「マミー、こんやはいっしょに寝て?」

お母さんはニッコリ微笑み、息子をやさしく抱きしめた。「ダメよ、」お母さんは言う。「ママはパパといっしょに寝るんだから」

長いあいだシーンとしたあと、息子は震える声で弱々しく言った。
「大人のくせにヨワムシ」
